ATG’s online casino grows fast as horse and sports betting dip

ATG’s online casino grows fast as horse and sports betting dip

ATG, the Swedish gambling operator behind betting products such as V75 and Oddset, published its third-quarter report on 23 October. The figures show a mixed picture: horse racing and sports betting are losing ground, while the company’s online casino business keeps growing.

At the same time, ATG is pushing into a new market. Its Finnish joint venture, Hippos ATG, has just been cleared to offer games once Finland’s new licensed market opens.

What’s new

According to the report, total revenue for the third quarter fell three per cent to SEK1.42bn (US$143m), net gaming revenue dropped four per cent to SEK1.25bn ($125.5m) and operating profit declined 10 per cent to SEK392m ($39.4m). The decline was driven by the core business: horse race betting revenue dropped six per cent and sports betting revenue fell by nine per cent.

The bright spot was casino. Online casino revenue rose by 13 per cent, and 25syv in Denmark increased its net gaming revenue by 45 per cent in Swedish kroner. Over the first nine months of the year, net gaming revenue fell three per cent to SEK3.76bn ($378.6m) and operating profit dropped two per cent to SEK1.08bn ($108.6m).

ATG’s chief financial officer, Lotta Nilsson, said the company continues to have strong profitability, but the decline in horse and sports betting requires it to strengthen its offerings and competitiveness. She also pointed out that the casino business and the Danish market are growing.

What it means for you as a player

If you play on ATG’s Swedish licence, the report mainly signals that the company is putting its focus where growth is happening – in casino games rather than horse racing and sports. That could eventually mean new or updated casino titles in ATG’s lineup, though the company hasn’t announced specific launches tied to this report.

Nothing changes about how you log in, deposit or withdraw at a Swedish-licensed operator like ATG. As always, you can set limits on your play or exclude yourself entirely via Spelpaus.se, and Stödlinjen.se is available if you want to talk about your gambling habits.

The bigger picture

The report lands as ATG expands beyond Sweden. Hippos ATG, the joint venture owned by ATG and Finnish trotting organisation Suomen Hippos, has been granted a gambling licence ahead of Finland’s upcoming market launch. The licence covers horse betting, sports betting, and online casino games, which ATG already offers in Sweden and Denmark.

The plan is for the venture to operate online betting on sports and horse races, as well as iGaming once the market launches, which happens on 1 July 2027. Combined with the strong growth already seen in its existing casino business, the direction points towards casino becoming an increasingly important part of ATG’s future, both in Sweden and abroad.
