BankID Casinos 2026

By Oskar Nyström · Fact-checked by Mikael Sandberg against Spelinspektionen's licence register · Updated 19 October 2026

BankID Casinos 2026

A BankID casino uses your electronic ID to confirm who you are – when you register, when you log in and often also when you approve a deposit or a withdrawal. Here we compare licensed operators that themselves state they use BankID, and explain what BankID actually does in the process and what it does not protect you against.

Worth clearing up straight away: BankID is not a payment method. It is a form of identification. The money is moved by your bank or a payment provider, while BankID confirms that it really is you giving the go-ahead.

How we select BankID casinos

We only include operators that hold a Swedish licence and where the casino itself states that it uses BankID for registration, log-in or payments. We take the information from the operators’ websites and terms and from Spelinspektionen (the Swedish Gambling Authority). We have not created accounts or made deposits ourselves, so what is written here is the casino’s own description.

Besides BankID, we look at four things:

  • Which payment methods the casino lists, and whether they are approved with BankID via the bank.
  • Whether the bonus terms can be read in full before you register.
  • How easy it is to find deposit limits, breaks and self-exclusion.
  • Whether the casino states a clear withdrawal time, or just writes that withdrawals are “fast”.

Every casino in our comparison where the detail could be checked states that it uses BankID, so the question is more how it is used than whether it is there. We therefore distinguish between casinos where BankID simply replaces the password and casinos where the whole account is created along with the deposit.

BankID casinos by need

When you want to play in an app

Casumo has its own app for iOS and Android with slots, live casino and payments, and Unibet states that its casino app is available for both platforms. At both, the casino lists BankID for log-in, and on a phone the BankID app opens directly on the same screen.

When withdrawal time matters most

Few casinos state a concrete time. Snabbare says that Trustly withdrawals reach the bank within 15 minutes of the withdrawal being processed, and ComeOn states that withdrawals are processed within 24 hours and that some methods take a few minutes. We go through what affects the speed on our page about casinos with fast withdrawals.

When you want plenty of payment methods

Unibet shows Swish, Trustly, Apple Pay and several card options among its payment choices. ComeOn mentions Swish, Trustly with One Click, debit cards and e-wallets such as Skrill, Neteller and PayPal. With more options, you can choose a method based on how you want to handle withdrawals.

When you want to get started without a form

Snabbare lets you deposit first. The account is then created when you verify yourself with BankID, according to the casino’s own description. It is the same principle as at a no account casino, where registration happens in the background rather than as a separate step.

Licences and BankID compared

The licence number appears in the casino’s footer and can be checked against the Spelinspektionen register. Where we have not been able to confirm a detail we write “See the casino’s terms”.

What does BankID do at a casino?

Spellagen (the Gambling Act) requires the operator to verify your identity “in a secure manner”, using secure electronic identification or equivalent. The law does not single out BankID, but it is the electronic ID that Swedish operators in practice build their flows around. BankID is used on three occasions:

  • Registration – the casino gets your name and personal identity number confirmed and can check that you are 18 or over.
  • Log-in – instead of a password you sign with BankID, which makes it hard for anyone else to use your account.
  • Payments – when you pay via your bank, for example with Trustly, Zimpler or Brite, you approve the transfer with BankID.

There may be more of this in future. In a proposal for new regulations from June 2026, Spelinspektionen wants players to identify themselves with an electronic ID at every log-in and to be logged out automatically when inactive. The proposal had not yet been adopted when we checked.

Registering with BankID step by step

Exactly how it looks differs between operators, but most flows follow the same pattern:

  1. You choose to create an account and enter your personal identity number, or scan a QR code with the BankID app.
  2. You identify yourself in the BankID app. The casino then has confirmation of who you are.
  3. You add any missing details, usually email and phone number.
  4. You set deposit limits per day, week and month. This is mandatory for online gambling.
  5. You choose whether to limit your log-in time. It is optional, but the question must be asked.
  6. You make your first deposit and decide on any welcome bonus.

Steps four and five are easy to click past, but they are among the most important in the whole flow. A limit you set before you start playing is easier to stick to than one you try to decide in the middle of a session. If you lower your limit it applies immediately, while an increase takes effect after 72 hours at the earliest.

If you choose an operator that creates the account along with the deposit, several of the steps are merged, but the questions about limits remain. Whatever the set-up, the same rules apply to all BankID play at Swedish licence holders.

How BankID works technically

BankID is owned and developed by Finansiell ID-Teknik BID AB, which was founded in 2002 and is owned by a number of banks. You get the ID itself through your own bank, which is also responsible for issuing it. Mobile BankID has been around since 2011, and according to BankID the service had around 8.5 million users in 2023.

Because the bank issues BankID, that is also where you turn when the ID needs renewing or when you change phone. Your gaming account is not affected, since the account is linked to your personal identity number and not to a particular BankID installation. Once you have a new BankID you log in just as before.

For you as a player, this means the casino never sees your bank log-in. The casino sends a request, you open the BankID app, check what you are approving and sign with your code or biometrics. The response goes back to the casino as confirmation that you are you.

On a phone it is especially smooth, as the BankID app opens automatically when you tap the button in the casino. If you mostly play on your phone, you can read more about apps and browser play in our guide to mobile casinos in Sweden. A mobile BankID casino works essentially the same way as on a computer, where you scan a QR code instead.

A Swedish licence and what it requires of the operator

All casinos with a Swedish licence must have your name, address and personal identity number before you can play. Identification is part of player protection: it means Spelpaus, the national self-exclusion register, can be applied, the age limit can be checked and deposit limits follow you rather than just a particular device.

Not having BankID does not automatically mean you are shut out. The law allows secure electronic ID or equivalent, but which alternatives are accepted differs between operators. Ask customer service before you try to deposit money.

Sometimes an operator changes licence company, and that can affect your account. According to trade press, Betsson moved to a new licence company on 30 September 2026, and existing accounts were closed so that players had to register again. With BankID such re-registration is quick, but it is wise to read which terms apply after the change.

Deposits and withdrawals approved with BankID

Most Swedish casinos offer bank payments that you approve with BankID. Trustly is the name that appears most often in the comparison above, but Zimpler and Brite are also Swedish payment institutions supervised by Finansinspektionen (the financial supervisory authority) that offer direct bank payments and payouts. We describe how Trustly works step by step, including fees, on our page about paying with Trustly.

Mr Green, for example, highlights deposits and withdrawals with BankID on its home page, and LeoVegas states that registration is done with BankID and that you can deposit and withdraw via Swish or Trustly.

Cards and e-wallets do not always require BankID for every payment. Bear in mind too that credit cards have been blocked for gambling since 1 May 2026. Debit cards that take money from your own account can still be used where the casino offers them.

Is BankID safe – and what does it not protect against?

BankID is a strong form of identification, but it is only as safe as the way you handle it. The basic rule is simple: never sign anything you have not started yourself. If someone calls and asks you to “verify” a gaming account or a payout with BankID, hang up. A reputable casino never asks you to identify yourself on request over the phone.

Always read the text in the BankID app before approving. It shows who is requesting the identification and what it is for. If it does not match what you just did at the casino, cancel.

Nor does BankID protect you against gambling too much. It confirms who you are, not that you can afford it. That is why your deposit limit remains your most important tool.

Pros and cons of BankID at casinos

Pros

  • No password to forget or have stolen.
  • Registration is quick because your identity is confirmed digitally.
  • The same log-in works at every Swedish operator that uses BankID.

Cons

  • Without BankID, getting started can be more complicated.
  • Fraudsters sometimes try to trick people into signing.
  • The fast flow makes it easy to deposit more than planned.

Responsible gambling with BankID

BankID is also the key to Spelpaus. There you choose a period, from 10 days to indefinitely, and confirm with an electronic ID such as BankID or Freja eID+. The exclusion applies at all Swedish-licensed operators and cannot be reversed or ended early.

If you only want a break at a single casino, you can exclude yourself there. Online casinos are obliged to offer an immediate 24-hour block, and they must also have a test that lets you assess your gambling habits. If you need support, you can reach Stödlinjen, the national helpline, on 020-81 91 00 or via the chat at stodlinjen.se.

Frequently asked questions

What is a BankID casino?

It is a casino where you register and log in with BankID instead of a username and password. BankID is also often used to approve deposits and withdrawals through your bank.

Do you need BankID to play at Swedish casinos?

The law requires secure electronic identification or equivalent, not BankID specifically. In practice, Swedish operators build their flows around BankID, so without it getting started may be harder. Ask customer service which alternatives are available.

Can I play with Mobile BankID on my phone?

Yes. When you log in or pay on your phone, the BankID app opens directly and you sign with your code or biometrics. On a computer you scan a QR code with your phone instead.

Is it safe to use BankID at a casino?

BankID is a strong form of identification, and the casino never sees your bank details. The main risk lies in fraud where someone tries to get you to sign. Always read the text in the app and only sign what you yourself have started.

Can I exclude myself from gambling with BankID?

Yes. On Spelpaus, the national self-exclusion register, you choose how long you want to be excluded and confirm with BankID or another electronic ID. The exclusion applies at all operators with a Swedish licence.
