Casino Guides

By Emma Bergqvist · Fact-checked by Mikael Sandberg against Spelinspektionen's licence register · Updated 16 October 2026

Our casino guides explain the rules behind the games: how bonus terms and wagering requirements work, what Swedish law says about licences, bonuses and limits, and how to keep your gambling at a level you are in control of. The guides are written for those who want to understand the terms before depositing money – not to promise winnings.

All the guides we have published are listed below this text. Here we briefly describe what they cover and how we write them.

Bonuses and terms

The most common question we receive is about bonus terms. An offer can look generous, but it is the terms that decide what it is worth to you. That is why our guides go through wagering requirements, maximum bet, validity period and game contribution – and we always work through concrete examples.

A simple worked example: a bonus of 1,000 kr with a wagering requirement of 35 times the bonus means you must wager 1,000 × 35 = 35,000 kr before the bonus money can be withdrawn. If you play with stakes of 10 kr, that equals 3,500 game rounds.

The less visible terms are just as important. A maximum bet limits how much you may stake per round while the bonus is active, and a validity period determines how long you have to meet the requirement. Game contribution shows how much different games count towards wagering – slots often count in full, while table games count less or not at all. Always check the current terms at the casino.

Swedish gambling rules in brief

Sweden has its own Gambling Act, Spellagen, with clear rules for casinos holding a Swedish licence. Some examples that affect you as a player:

  • A gambling operator may only offer a bonus on the first gaming occasion.
  • You must set a limit on your deposits per day, week and month. A reduction applies immediately; an increase takes effect after 72 hours at the earliest.
  • Since 1 May 2026, gambling operators may not allow gambling funded by credit, and credit cards must be blocked.
  • Winnings from gambling operators with a Swedish licence are tax-free for you as a player.

In the guides we explain what the rules mean in practice and where there are exceptions or caveats.

The maths of the games

Every casino game has a built-in edge for the casino, and it can be calculated. In single-zero roulette there are 37 pockets. If you bet on a single number you are paid 35 times your stake, even though the chance of hitting it is 1 in 37. The casino’s edge is therefore 1/37, roughly 2.7%. The guides show how such calculations are done, so that you understand why no system can change the outcome in the long run.

Wagering requirements – a casino guide to start with

If you read only one guide before accepting a bonus, make it the one on wagering requirements. There we go through how the requirement is calculated, what difference it makes whether it applies to the bonus only or to both deposit and bonus, and which mistakes are most common.

Responsible gambling

Gambling should be entertainment. Our responsible gambling guides cover the tools you have at Swedish casinos – deposit limits, time limits and self-exclusion – and Spelpaus, the national register through which you can exclude yourself from all licensed gambling. The full overview is on our page about responsible gambling, together with contact details for Stödlinjen, the gambling helpline (020-819 100).

How we write our guides

Every rule and figure in a guide must have a source, such as the legislation or information from Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority. Worked examples are based on simple maths, and we never write that a strategy can change the casino’s built-in edge. When the rules change, we update the guides and state what has changed. If you find something that is not correct, you can email us at kontakt@kasinohitta.com.

Frequently asked questions

What is a wagering requirement?

A wagering requirement (omsättningskrav) states how much you must wager before bonus money or winnings from a bonus can be withdrawn. It is expressed as a multiple, for example 35 times the bonus amount.

How many bonuses can a Swedish casino give?

A gambling operator with a Swedish licence may only offer a bonus on the first gaming occasion. In practice, that means only welcome bonuses exist at Swedish casinos.

Are winnings from Swedish casinos tax-free?

Yes, winnings from gambling operators with a Swedish licence are tax-free for you as a player. Winnings from operators that lack a Swedish licence but target Sweden may, however, be taxable.

Do the guides teach strategies for winning?

No. No strategy changes the casino’s built-in edge. The guides explain rules and terms so that you understand what you are getting into.
